The experience of birth begins long before labor.
Prenatal meetings are an important part of birth doula support, providing space to discuss preferences, explore available options, prepare for common scenarios, and develop a clearer understanding of the birth process.
Preparation creates confidence. It allows decisions to feel informed rather than reactive.
A birth doula remains focused on one person: the mother. Having a doula for labor means someone stays with you from the first contraction to delivery.
Continuous labor support may include emotional reassurance, comfort measures, position changes, and practical guidance as labor unfolds.
Unlike hospital staff whose responsibilities extend across multiple patients, a doula provides continuous support throughout labor and birth.
A doula does not replace a partner.
Instead, a doula helps partners feel more confident in their role and more actively involved throughout the birth experience.
Many partners find that having professional birth doula support available allows them to focus on their loved one rather than trying to navigate labor on their own.
Many of the families we support are planning a VBAC.
Over the years, our doulas have assisted numerous women pursuing vaginal birth after cesarean and have developed extensive experience supporting VBAC journeys in hospital settings.
VBAC requires preparation, informed decision-making, and continuous support throughout labor. Our team is familiar with the unique considerations often associated with these births and works closely with families seeking a well-supported VBAC experience.
Many of the families who hire us are planning an unmedicated hospital birth. Our doulas are experienced in supporting physiologic labor and helping women navigate labor with a variety of comfort measures and positioning techniques.
At the same time, our role is not to promote a particular type of birth.
Whether you are planning a natural hospital birth, medicated birth, or planned cesarean, our role remains the same: to provide continuous labor support throughout the experience.
We support families planning hospital births, birth center births, and home births attended by a licensed provider.

Each certified doula we work with is carefully selected not only for her credentials, but for the way she shows up in this work.
Every member of our team meets both professional requirements and the standards we hold for presence, judgment, and quality of care.
Birth is only one part of the transition into parenthood.
Many families choose to continue working with their birth doula after delivery, creating continuity through recovery and the early weeks with a newborn.
Sleep deprivation, physical recovery, feeding challenges, and the demands of caring for a newborn can quickly become overwhelming without the right support in place. Postpartum doula care provides practical assistance, education, and guidance throughout this transition.
After birth, families who want that support to continue work with our postpartum doulas in Miami for feeding, recovery and the first weeks at home, and with our overnight newborn care in Miami for the nights.
We provide birth doula support across South Florida: Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, Bal Harbour, Brickell, Pinecrest, Coconut Grove, Miami Beach, Boca Raton, Aventura, Surfside, Sunny Isles Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Parkland, Weston, West Palm Beach and Palm Beach Gardens.

What Is a Doula? What a Doula Does — and Does Not Do
A doula is a trained, non-medical professional who stays with you through pregnancy, birth and the first weeks at home. Here is what she does,…
Your doula stays with you through labor and birth: comfort measures and positions, breathing, help for your partner, and a calm voice when decisions come up. She does not replace your nurse, OB or midwife; she works alongside them so you understand what is happening and what your options are.
Most families book in the second trimester, so there is time for prenatal visits and a birth plan. If your due date is closer, contact us anyway — we will tell you right away whether a doula from our team is available.
Yes. Our doulas support scheduled cesareans, VBACs, inductions, unmedicated births and births with an epidural. We prepare you for the specific hospital and its policies and stay with you for recovery.
MotheRetreat is an agency, not a solo practice. Your doula is on call around your due date, and a vetted backup doula from the same team is arranged in advance, so you are never left without support.
Our doulas attend births in hospitals and birth centers across South Florida, and support home births with your midwife. We know the local hospitals and how each one works.
We are an approved provider for Carrot and Maven employer benefits. Traditional health insurance rarely covers doula care, though some families use HSA or FSA funds — check with your plan, and we will provide the paperwork you need.
