Birth Doula Tampa Bay
and Surrounding Areas

Why have a birth doula in Tampa?

A birth doula in Tampa stays with you through labor — at Tampa General Hospital, St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital, AdventHealth Tampa, Bayfront Baby Place in St. Petersburg or Morton Plant in Clearwater. MotheRetreat matches Tampa Bay families with a certified labor doula, a vetted backup and a coordinator who keeps the plan steady if your baby arrives early or your provider changes course.

Research has consistently associated continuous professional labor support with improved birth outcomes and greater satisfaction with the birth experience for both mothers and their partners.

Evidence Matters:

  • 39% decrease in the risk of Cesarean sections
  • 15% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth
  • 10% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief
  • 38% decrease in the baby’s risk of a low five-minute Apgar score
  • 31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience
  • 34% less likely to rate their childbirth experience as negative

Before the birth: prenatal visits at home

We come to you — South Tampa, Davis Islands, Carrollwood, Westchase, Brandon, Wesley Chapel or across the bay in St. Petersburg and Clearwater. Two prenatal visits are for preferences, questions and the scenarios that actually happen in local hospitals: induction schedules at Tampa General, the family-centered cesarean protocols at St. Joseph’s Women’s, what a MacDill deployment means for who is in the room. You leave with a plan you understand, not a template.

What your doula does during labor

From the first contraction we are on call, and once labor is active your doula is with you — at home while you wait, on the drive, and in the delivery room until your baby is born. Position changes, counter-pressure, hip squeezes, the shower, the peanut ball, quiet reassurance when things move fast. We do not replace your OB, midwife or nurses; we make sure you can hear them and answer for yourself.

Support for partners, and for families far from home

Many Tampa Bay families are new to the area — relocated for work, stationed at MacDill, hours from parents and sisters. A doula gives partners a steady pair of hands and a calm voice so they can be present instead of anxious. Partners who want to be hands-on get coached in the moment; partners who need a break get one without guilt.

VBAC support in Tampa hospitals

Planning a vaginal birth after cesarean? Our doulas have supported VBACs in Tampa General, St. Joseph’s and AdventHealth, and we know which questions to bring to your provider early: monitoring preferences, induction thresholds, who attends the birth. Preparation is most of the work; on the day, continuous support does the rest.

Your birth, your decisions

Some of our families want an unmedicated hospital birth; some want an epidural at the first opportunity; some are scheduled for a cesarean and want a doula for the recovery room and the first feed. All of these are good plans. Our job is to know yours, protect the calm around it, and help you adjust when the day brings something new.

Our Birth Doula Package Includes:

  • Two prenatal visits
  • Continuous virtual support throughout pregnancy
  • On-call availability for birth
  • Birth support with no hourly limits
  • One postpartum visit following birth

We would be happy to discuss your goals and answer your questions.

Meet Our Certified Doula Team

Each certified doula we work with is carefully selected not only for her credentials, but for the way she shows up in this work.
Every member of our team meets both professional requirements and the standards we hold for presence, judgment, and quality of care.

Beyond Birth

Birth is only one part of the transition into parenthood.
Many families choose to continue working with their birth doula after delivery, creating continuity through recovery and the early weeks with a newborn.
Sleep deprivation, physical recovery, feeding challenges, and the demands of caring for a newborn can quickly become overwhelming without the right support in place. Postpartum doula care provides practical assistance, education, and guidance throughout this transition.

After birth, families who want that support to continue work with our postpartum doulas in Tampa for feeding, recovery and the first weeks at home, and with our overnight newborn care in Tampa for the nights.

We support families across Tampa Bay and surrounding areas: South Tampa, Westchase, Carrollwood, New Tampa, Wesley Chapel, Brandon, Riverview, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota and nearby cities.

Frequently asked questions

Which Tampa Bay hospitals do your birth doulas attend?

Our doulas support births at Tampa General Hospital, St. Joseph's Women's Hospital, AdventHealth Tampa, Bayfront Baby Place in St. Petersburg and Morton Plant in Clearwater. If you are delivering somewhere else in Tampa Bay, ask — we confirm before any commitment.

What is included in the birth doula package?

Two prenatal visits at your home, continuous virtual support throughout pregnancy, on-call availability around your due date, support through labor and birth with no hourly limit, and one postpartum visit after the birth.

Who exactly will be my birth doula?

A certified birth doula from our Tampa Bay team — insured, background-checked, with current CPR certification, and evaluated by us before she meets a family. You meet her at a prenatal visit before the birth, and a named backup doula is arranged in advance.

What happens if my doula is not available when labor starts?

MotheRetreat is an agency, not a solo practice. Your doula is on call around your due date, a vetted backup from the same Tampa Bay team is arranged in advance, and a coordinator keeps the plan steady if your baby arrives early or your provider changes course.

Do you support VBAC, induction or a planned cesarean?

Yes. Our doulas have supported VBACs, inductions, unmedicated births, births with an epidural and scheduled cesareans in Tampa hospitals. We prepare you for the specific hospital and its protocols and stay with you for the recovery room and the first feed.

We are new to Tampa or stationed at MacDill — how does a doula help my partner?

Many of the families we support are far from relatives — relocated for work or stationed at MacDill Air Force Base. A doula gives your partner a steady pair of hands and a calm voice: partners who want to be hands-on are coached in the moment, and partners who need a break get one without guilt.

When should I book a birth doula in Tampa?

Most families book in the second trimester, so there is time for prenatal visits and a birth plan. If your due date is closer, contact us anyway — we will tell you right away whether a doula from our Tampa Bay team is available.
