Postpartum Doula Tampa Bay
and Surrounding Areas

Do you need a postpartum doula in Tampa?

A postpartum doula in Tampa comes to your home in the weeks after birth to help with recovery, feeding, sleep and newborn care. MotheRetreat serves families across Tampa Bay — South Tampa, Carrollwood, Westchase, Brandon, Wesley Chapel, St. Petersburg and Clearwater — with certified postpartum doulas, a vetted backup and one coordinator who keeps the schedule steady. Most families find us after they are home from Tampa General or St. Joseph’s and realize the hard part started after discharge.

Recovery at home: what your doula actually does

Not a cleaner, not a nanny, not a nurse. A postpartum doula watches you as closely as the baby: how you are healing, whether you have eaten, whether feeding is going the way you were told it would. Daytime shifts cover newborn care while you sleep or shower, feeding support, a walk with the baby so the house is quiet, and the practical things — bottles washed, laundry folded, a meal on the stove. Overnight shifts are a separate service: see overnight newborn care in Tampa.

What a Tampa postpartum doula covers

  • Newborn care and education
  • Breastfeeding and feeding guidance
  • Recovery after birth
  • Emotional support and reassurance
  • Sleep and newborn routine guidance
  • Sibling adjustment
  • Light meal preparation
  • Light household assistance related to the baby and postpartum recovery

For the nights, a night doula from our overnight newborn care in Tampa team stays awake so you sleep.

Our Tampa Bay doulas

Every doula on the Tampa Bay team is certified, insured and background-checked, and each one went through the same evaluation we use in Tampa Bay before she ever meets a family. Continuing education is required. You get a primary doula and a named backup — if she is sick or her own child is, the shift still happens.

Why an agency, not a single doula

Behind every schedule there is a coordinator managing hours, changes and communication, so you never chase anyone by text at 2 a.m. If your baby arrives early or you need to add nights after a rough week, the structure absorbs it. Families who also want a doula for the birth itself can start with birth doula support in Tampa and continue with the same team at home.

The postpartum period will pass regardless.

The question is how you want to experience it, and who you want beside you. We support families across Tampa Bay and surrounding areas: South Tampa, Davis Islands, Hyde Park, Carrollwood, Westchase, New Tampa, Lutz, Land O’ Lakes, Wesley Chapel, Brandon, Riverview, Apollo Beach — and across the bay in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Safety Harbor, Palm Harbor and Dunedin, plus Sarasota and nearby cities. Not sure we reach you? Ask; we confirm coverage before any commitment.

Frequently asked questions

What does a postpartum doula actually do at home?

Newborn care while you sleep or shower, feeding and breastfeeding guidance, a close eye on your own recovery, sleep and routine guidance, help with siblings, light meal preparation and the household tasks that come with a newborn — bottles washed, laundry folded. A postpartum doula is not a cleaner, a nanny or a nurse; she looks after you as closely as the baby.

Do you offer overnight help in Tampa?

Yes. Overnight newborn care is a separate service: a doula from our Tampa Bay team stays awake with your baby through the night so you sleep. Many families combine daytime postpartum visits with overnight care.

Which areas of Tampa Bay do you cover?

South Tampa, Davis Islands, Hyde Park, Carrollwood, Westchase, New Tampa, Lutz, Land O' Lakes, Wesley Chapel, Brandon, Riverview, Apollo Beach, and across the bay in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Safety Harbor, Palm Harbor and Dunedin. Not sure we reach you? Ask — we confirm coverage before any commitment.

Are your Tampa postpartum doulas certified?

Every doula on the Tampa Bay team is certified, insured and background-checked, holds current infant and adult CPR certification, and went through our own evaluation before she ever meets a family. You get a primary doula and a named backup arranged in advance, and one coordinator who keeps the schedule steady. Continuing education is required.

When can care start, and how long are the shifts?

As soon as you are home from the hospital — many families set the schedule during pregnancy so it is ready before the birth; others contact us after discharge. Daytime visits are a minimum of 6 hours. Overnight shifts are 10 hours, starting no later than 11 p.m. and ending no earlier than 6 a.m., so you get a full night of sleep. If your baby arrives early or you need more help after a rough week, your coordinator adjusts the schedule.

Why hire an agency instead of a single postpartum doula?

Behind every schedule there is a coordinator managing hours, changes and communication, so you never chase anyone by text at 2 a.m. A vetted backup is arranged in advance, and families who also want a doula for the birth itself can start with our Tampa birth doulas and continue with the same team at home.
