Massage during pregnancy is a very delicate type of therapeutic bodywork that is designed to suit the needs of each individual pregnant woman as their body goes through all of the typical changes of pregnancy. Prenatal massage is safe to receive during all stages of pregnancy, and greatly recommended by medical birth professionals. Not only is the mother able to relax her mind and body, massage can also help the mother physically prepare for the big day ahead! Setting aside time for yourself during pregnancy for self care can help you connect deeper with your growing baby inside, and have a more enjoyable pregnancy experience!
Studies have actually shown many benefits for both the mother, and the newborn when the mother has received multiple prenatal massages, and incorporated this practice into her regular prenatal care routine. Massage can help greatly with common pregnancy complaints and pains such as sciatica nerve pain, lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain, and edema. During the prenatal period, you are allowed to have as many massages as you’d like, and you deserve it!

What is a Rebozo?
The rebozo is a traditional Mexican scarf that women use for a variety of purposes. They use it to carry babies like a sling, as a hammock, for shade, to carry food and other goods, and even to during childbirth and postpartum. During pregnancy, the rebozo is used to help hold the weight of the belly from damaging the lower back. There are also many ways that the rebozo is used during childbirth, and into the postpartum.
What is rebozo massage?
The rebozo massage is a very gentle technique, used to align the body before and after birth. It is somewhat similar to osteopathy, because there is no direct contact with the body with the hands. This is a vibrational technique, when the body sways, and internal processes occur by themselves, and it is the body that chooses how to respond to the movements of the cloth.
During pregnancy, women are most often prohibited from massages, especially medical massage. Rebozo massage is a safe technique and can be done during pregnancy. There are studies, experience of foreign authors, famous midwives and doulas who actively use rebozo during pregnancy and childbirth.
How does it look like?
During the massage, a woman lies on the floor, on a yoga mat or blanket. The specialist puts the scarf under all parts of your body one by one and makes rocking movements. During late pregnancy, massage on all fours is also often done, and this massage can help correct sub-optimal abdominal positions such as breech or hind position.
